These two iconic heads became, in the blink of an eye, the great protagonists of one of the city&#039;s most relevant enclaves: El Castell. <strong>Its enormous size attracts the attention of thousands of tourists<\/strong> Those who visit the municipality these days have not been able to stop looking up to contemplate these works of art that reach seven meters in height.\n<\/p>\n<div wp_automatic_readability=\"95.238047307499\">\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>        The two iconic sculptures by Jaume Plensa can be seen from this Monday in the Plaza de Santa Ana, in front of the Castell de Benidorm, and will be on view until September 26th. Parts <strong>acquired by the Hortensia Herrero and Mercadona Foundation, <\/strong>They have already passed through the City of Arts and Sciences, along with five other sculptures with similar characteristics; Elche; Real Village; and Gand\u00eda and will now spend their days temporarily in Benidorm.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>        The two pieces are seven meters high and weigh 7,500 kilos each and represent the heads of two women, baptized as <em>Sylvia and Maria. <\/em>Through this exhibition, the artist expresses his idea of femininity, with models that represent <strong>slightly distorted faces of girls made of cast iron<\/strong>. This initiative grew out of a previous Plensa project, in which he photographed a thousand faces in Chicago. The two now on display in Benidorm were acquired by the Hortensia Herrero Foundation.\n<\/p>\n<aside class=\"new new__related\">\n<picture class=\"image\">\n                <img alt=\"Jaume Plensa&#039;s heads arrive in Elche\" data-src=\"https:\/\/estaticos-cdn.prensaiberica.es\/clip\/b737ec08-8894-45e1-80d4-68344ae1659c_16-9-aspect-ratio_default_0.jpg\" class=\"lozad\"\/>\n            <\/picture><!-- \/.image --><\/p>\n<header>\n<h2>Jaume Plensa&#039;s heads arrive in Elche<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<\/aside>\n<p><!-- \/.article-photo article-photo-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>        The installation of both sculptures <strong>It took several days of meetings to be able to locate them in this enclave.<\/strong> They have already captured the first looks and photographs of the first hundreds of thousands of visitors they will receive until the end of summer. The mayor, Toni P\u00e9rez; the councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer; and the president of the Foundation, Hortensia Herrero herself, received the sculptures with the name of a woman who will be their home for the next six months.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n        <em>Sylvia and Maria <\/em>They arise from individual photographs taken by the author himself and processed on the computer to elongate his figure \u201cas artists like El Greco, Modigliani and Giacometti did in their time\u201d, as Plensa also considers that \u201cdistortion can be beautiful\u201d, as he explained Javier Molins, artistic advisor to the Foundation. Both come with <strong>\u201ceyes closed\u201d because they \u201clook inward\u201d and invite the viewer to \u201cfind moments of reflection\u201d<\/strong> between \u201cthe noise that surrounds us\u201d and \u201clooking inside to find ourselves\u201d, he added. With both sculptures, weighing more than 7 tons, Jaume Plensa also follows \u201cthe tradition of monumental art\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>        The author \u201chas always been characterized by taking sculpture to the street\u201d, this time in the anteroom of El Castell, in a square where both sculptures<strong> \u201cthey can talk\u201d and \u201chave their space\u201d with \u201cthe most iconic image of Benidorm in the background:<\/strong> its &#039;horizon&#039; on the beach,\u201d said Molins.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>        But also, this idea of taking sculpture to the street is in line with what Benidorm has done in recent years: <strong>become an open-air museum.<\/strong> As this newspaper has already published, the city explores its most cultural part in open spaces where sculptures, photographs or works are displayed on the street to attract visitors and revitalize neighborhoods. The mayor indicated that \u201cthere is no better landmark to open Holy Week in Benidorm than this magnificent exhibition\u201d, the result of the \u201cwonderful alliance\u201d established between the Hortensia Herrero Foundation and the City Council, which <strong>\u201cin street art\u201d a common \u201creference\u201d. <\/strong>\u201cWe are very lucky and have the enormous opportunity to have <em>Sylvia and Maria<\/em> greeting and farewell for the day\u201d, highlighted P\u00e9rez.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text\">\n<p>         The first mayor thanked Hortensia Herrero for \u201c<strong>I wanted to share this day with us<\/strong>\u201c.
