The Retiro City Council has called for the fourth edition of the Benito Pérez Galdós Children and Youth Drawing and Literary Creation Competition in which children and young people aged 6 to 17 can participateenrolled in public, subsidized and private educational centers in Retiro, as well as in the classrooms of the Niño Jesús and Gregorio Marañón hospitals.
This year, the creativity of stories and comics will deal with two themes: the celebration of the 5th Centenary of the First Tour of the World and the First Spanish Grammar, by Elio Antonio de Nebrija. The objective is twofold. On the one hand, to make new generations aware of one of the greatest events in history and promote knowledge of its protagonists, these great adventurers and fantastic sailors, eager to discover and discover other worlds like Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano. In second place, the competition aims to promote the legacy of philologist Antonio de Nebrija and the ties that continue to unite us with Spanish-speaking countries.

The deadline for submitting applications will end on June 15th and can be presented through the electronic headquarters website of the Madrid City Council or in person in any of the legally established official registers.

Three categories were established in the two subjects, drawing and history: 6 and 8 years old; 9 and 12 years old, and a last one for students between 13 and 17 years old. The winners of the competition in each of the categories will receive prizes worth 300 euros, while the prize for second place is 200 eurosin addition to their respective diplomas.

The jury will be composed of the councilor of the Retiro district as president and the following members: one member appointed by each of the political groups represented in the municipal council, and three people appointed by the district councilor on a proposal from the Ministry of Education. The competition decision will take place in the last quarter of 2023 and will be published on the Madrid City Council website.
