The Academy's Board of Directors agreed last October to recognize Carlos Saura (Huesca, 1932) with the Goya de Honor 2023, for “his extensive and very personal creative contribution to the history of Spanish cinema from the late 1950s to today.” .
Elías Querejeta, Emiliano Piedra, Andrés Vicente Gómez, among other renowned producers, supported the stories of the filmmaker, who was the son-in-law of Charles Chaplin, friend and collaborator of Luis Buñuel, and who worked with big names not only in the world of cinema, but also opera (Daniel Barenboim and Zubin Mehta), flamenco (Paco de Lucía y Camarón) and photography (Vittorio Storaro).
His works include 'Los golfos', 'La caza', 'Peppermint Frappé', 'Ana y los lobos', 'Prima Angélica', 'Mom's 100th Birthday', 'Quick, quick', 'Carmen', ' Flamenco, flamenco', 'Sevillanas', 'The Seventh Day', 'Io Don Giovanni' and 'Goya en Bordeaux'.
According to him, he directed three types of films: “The first would be a cinema with its feet on the ground, with a concrete reality, like 'Los golfos', 'La caza', 'Quick, quick'; others are more creative, such as 'La cousin Angélica'; and then the most musical.”

National Cinematography Award in 1980, his career received every award imaginable and, above all, the love, appreciation and recognition from all of us who enjoy his films. DEP”.
