Cultural activities in the southern capital of Madrid from April 14th to 23rd

The mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández, and the curator of the eighth edition, Mario Obrero, presented the festival From the poetry of Getafe, focusing on April, which has already become poetry month in the city.

For ten days there will be workshops, recitals, tributes, conferences, exhibitions that will make “the people of Madrid stop in Getafe”, as highlighted Mario Worker, and not the opposite, to which we are so accustomed. The curator and also a 19-year-old poet wanted to highlight the importance of culture among young people in a city full of them, since Getafe has the Humanities campus -among others- of Carlos III University. Precisely to give an opportunity to all young people interested in poetry, the two Sundays covering the project will be open microphones at Lorenzo Azofra Park.

Getafe, poetic city

Among the poets who will go to the municipality these days are Marta Sanz, Manuel Rivas, Juan Carlos Mestre or Cuco Pérez. And the act I most wanted to see again is the tribute to Almudena Grandes, next Monday, April 17th. «Getafe already paid tribute to Almudena Grandes during his lifetime. It is important to honor the authors when they can still enjoy it”, highlighted the poet, referring to the public library that bears the name of the recently deceased writer.

As a reflection of “multilingual reality” that exists in Spain, there will also be a small tribute to Spanish languages other than Spanish: Galician, Asturian, Catalan and Basque They will also take place this week and a half of poetry. «Poetry comes to found. He comes to find footprints. And this is a mark that remains”, stated Obrero. He concluded by ensuring that every year there is more citizen participation and that Getafe is a city”very accustomed to the poetic word beyond these dates.
