Bessemer w\u00fcrde sich ungef\u00e4hr im unteren rechten Bereich befinden<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Acht Meilen von Birmingham entfernt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Whittens Reife und k\u00fcnstlerische Karriere verbrachte er in New York, wo er 1960 ankam.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: x-small; text-align: left;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-WbI6KpMTVTg\/VXwheWSrgAI\/AAAAAAAAHFs\/iel37fUJmdw\/s200\/tumblr_l35f59J0OX1qzmws8o1_500.jpg\" width=\"149\"\/><\/div>\n<p>w\u00e4hrend der Bl\u00fctezeit der abstrakten expressionistischen Bewegung. Diese Mitte des Jahrhunderts <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ganz <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">spiegelt sich in seinem Werk dieser Zeit wider. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Whitten arbeitete mit den K\u00fcnstlern der New York School zusammen, insbesondere mit Willem DeKooning, bewahrte aber offenbar auch eine Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit von ihnen, verkehrte mit anderen Farbk\u00fcnstlern und experimentierte mit seinen eigenen Vorstellungen von Abstraktion.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Vor New York studierte Whitten jedoch am Tuskegee Institute und anschlie\u00dfend an der Southern University in Baton Rouge, wo er seine Berufung zur Kunst entdeckte. Sein Umzug nach New York hatte ebenso viel mit seiner Verzweiflung \u00fcber die Unnachgiebigkeit der S\u00fcdstaaten w\u00e4hrend der B\u00fcrgerrechtsreformbewegung zu tun wie mit der Absicht, sich der Cooper Union anzuschlie\u00dfen \u2013 was tats\u00e4chlich der Fall war <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Er<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Er tat es. Der Eintritt in die Kunstschule im Alter von 21 Jahren war Whittens erste Erfahrung als einsamer schwarzer Mann in einer wei\u00dfen Umgebung.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Von den vielen Werkgruppen, die in vertreten sind <i>F\u00fcnf Jahrzehnte Malerei,<\/i> Am meisten faszinieren mich die Werke, die in den 1990er-Jahren entstanden sind <i>Schwarze Monolithen<\/i> die Whittens afroamerikanische Helden und Freunde ehren. Wie in <i>Hommage an Ralph Ellison <\/i>Oben ist jedes von ihnen ein Mosaik aus Tausenden bunter Steinchen. Jede Fliese wird aus Acrylfarbe (und eventuellen Zusatzstoffen) geformt.
